Icons Reunite: Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira Face Off Again for BMF Glory at UFC 326

When Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira first collided in August 2015 at UFC Fight Night 74 in Saskatoon, Canada, few could have predicted the journey both fighters would take in the decade that followed.

Now, with both men established as UFC champions in their own right, they're set for a rematch that carries far more weight than the original—this time for the symbolic but prestigious "Baddest Motherfucker" title.

The Road to Redemption

Holloway's 2015 victory over Oliveira came under extraordinary circumstances. Oliveira suffered a mysterious neck injury during the fight that left him partially paralyzed on his left side. The injury was so severe that Oliveira was loaded onto a stretcher, and he believed his career might be over.

"I lost movement on my left side in the fight," Oliveira revealed years later. "There were talks that I could have been paralyzed because of that. I was scared my career was over in that moment."

But Oliveira never gave up. He clawed his way back, eventually claiming the UFC lightweight championship at UFC 262 in 2021—a title he held with pride before moving on to other ventures.

Holloway, meanwhile, became a featherweight icon, capturing that division's crown before moving up to lightweight where he claimed the "BMF" belt in 2024 after a sensational victory over Justin Gaethje.

A Rematch Worth Its Weight

Now 36 years old, Oliveira (36-11, 1 NC) is ready to write the next chapter of his legacy. The former champion has been training hard and is in phenomenal shape heading into UFC 326 on March 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

"It's definitely huge," Oliveira said of the opportunity. "It's one more thing I can add to my legacy. The lion is still hungry and I definitely think I'm going to become a champion again."

For Holloway (27-8), the 34-year-old lightweight will be looking to prove that his first victory wasn't a fluke—and to cement his status as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of this generation.

What It Means

This isn't just a rematch. It's a celebration of two fighters who reached the pinnacle of the sport. It's Oliveira getting a chance at redemption not just against Holloway, but against the adversity that nearly ended his career a decade ago.

The "BMF" title may be symbolic, but for these two icons, proving themselves against each other one more time carries real meaning. Both have proven they can compete at the highest level. Now they'll prove who truly deserves to wear the "Baddest Motherfucker" crown.
